Since Yahoo Answers is to obtain and share information, then why are some Q & A private?
To me this does not make any sense! Is someone afraid their questions or answers will get "stolen", or maybe some people want others to "think" for themselves. I am hoping someone would explain this to me....

Some people, it seems, are bothered by inappropriate answers, emails, and 'trolls' going through their profile and hounding them. Fortunately I have never suffered from this. I think it must happen a lot more in some question categories than in others.
At one stage, I was thinking of shutting down my email link, as a small number of people were sending me whole batches of mathematical questions which they had not even posted in Yahoo Answers. I consider emails of that sort inappropriate, and explained I would not answer them. In my profile, I now ask people who email me to include a link to the question.

My profile is private not because I'm afraid of someone stealing my info, but I just got sick of tired of trolls stalking me. Now, they have no access of my answers, which makes following me around very hard to do.
