You can do it now but not on the Space Shuttle. The Russian space agency has take three space tourists to the Internation Space Station, an American business man, a South African business man, and a Iranian born American business woman. The cost is 20 million dollars. There are no plans to include any space tourist on the limited number of flights left in the Space Shuttle program. The ISS is for scientists and has limited supplies.

NASA already allows the average American to pay for space flight. Its called taxes.

  • At a $10,k a pound launch cost NASA isnt going to get into the space tourism biz, any time soon, Second they are payed for by tax payer money to explore space not send people into space for site seeing.... Lastly NASA can set only its own policy ... It does not set space law and or policy on flights or launches of other space craft not of N.A.S.A. ... That would fall under the F.A.A. , N.T.S.B , and the DOT.

Well, with the number of astronauts who haven't made the trip yet, I don't think preference should be given to the average guy. At least, not yet, and not with the vehicles we have.
