Do I need a cover letter?
I am going to begin applying for pharmaceutical/medical sales jobs over the internet and was wondering if it is recommended to have a cover letter when applying over the internet?
Also, what information should be included in a cover letter to a pharmaceutical company?

If you are interested in pharmacy you have an education. Don't blow it. Get a pro to write your resume and cover letter.

A intro letter is when you would introduce yourself. Give some info about why you would like to work there, what you are good at, what got you interested in the position (i.e.maybe it was something in the ad that caught your attention) Market your talents for the position, but don't over due it. A cover letter is when you would again introduce yourself; tell them you have enclosed your resume for the position and why you would like to be consider for the position. I think the intro letter would contain more information than the cover letter.

Here is a really weird answer. I was really cheap when I began my job search so I made a friend who was a great writer a deal. I say great writer in the fact that he wrote some good articles for the high school newspaper 3 years before. I washed his truck and got him a date with my girls sister. For me he wrote my resume, with no experience. He simply went to a bunch of resume sites that want you to pay for them to write your resume and checked out there samples. There he found a combination of 5 or 6 resumes that all had things he could re word a little and put on mine. My resume looked great and the cover letter was a million dollar idea. I got a job way out of my range and just winged it but it actually sparked me to who I am today, I still owe him.
Short version is yes the cover letter is more important than the resume.

Your cover letter can be part of the email with your resume attached. Very briefly state your interest in the position, why you would be an asset to the operation, and quantify your experience in the field. Close by asking for an appointment to interview. Also, don't waste much time applying unless the company has posted an open position. Unsolicited resumes usually go in the big black hole.

As someone who often review resumes, over the internet or hard copies, the cover letter is what I look at first. Resumes tend to be pretty much the same, it is the cover letter that sells it for me. So yes, I would definitely use a cover letter. :)

I would definitely include a cover letter because you just don't know what the person on the other end is expecting. There are some great tips on the site below. Good luck!

Yes, you should include a cover letter. The letter should highlight the experience and education you have that makes you the right person for the job.
I put together a page on cover letters for mahalo.com:

I think it has a lot of helpful links, and I hope it helps you.
