I've never had chlorine water turn my hair orange but I always dye mine dark; Chlorine will dry your hair out and make it feel like straw; the best thing to do before you go in chlorinated water (this is for all hair, whether dyed or not) is wet your hair with cool regular water ...the colder the better. If your hair is already wet, it will soak up less chlorinated water and the cold will close the cuticle on the outside of the hair. When you are done swimming, make sure to rinse with cool water then wash it out.

What color did you do? My daughter did her hair dark brown/black she is on the swim team. She swam the day after. It lightened it a little but didn't cause any drastic affects.
It may depend if your hair was light and you went dark it could cause a drastic change. tell me more about your hair and its texture. May be able to help with further information.
