Windows Media Player Question?

Ok, I bought this computer about a year ago, its great and all but I'm having serious codec issues, especially with WMP. Some files work (and those are a small few) and every other file I have either plays choppy or the audio doesn't match up with the video. I have to use a different media player for different files. I was wondering how I could fix this, is it my computer or is Windows just getting worse and worse over the years.

Another question, whenever I right click on a video file (to bring up the drop menu) the screen will flash to black for about 2 seconds and then flash back to normal. What could be causing all of this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm going nuts lol

Update:

I have updated my codecs and the issue is still there.

WMP has that kind of problem even if you update the codecs already. All you have to do is download other player like AVS. It's free and it plays almost all kind of media files. Ü

on some wmp, playing speed is an option, also check the file types in the tools area, some files wmp just will not play, such as real audio and apple files.
