You have to be firm with him.

If you get a routine going,it should be easier.

Try this:Start by wearing him out, then let him go potty while you're out. Then go inside and cuddle him.Right before you go to put him in his crate, take him outside to go potty one last time.Remember, you should have taken his water away about 1-2 hours before he goes to bed.

The key is to BE FIRM!!

If you do this every night,he should have it down in a couple of weeks.

P.S.-His crate should be big enough for him to stand up and turn around in, but he shouldn't have too much wiggle room,or else he will go potty in it. If you don't want to buy a 2 or 3 crates, then I suggest buying a crate that has a divider,so you can block off a section to fit his size,so he won't potty in it.

P.P.S-If this doesn't work, you can try putting a ticking clock in it's crate to simulate heartbeats.Or you can rub a washcloth on you so it has your scent, then put it in the crate.

    I hope this helps!!!!

Crate training is a little more complicated than that - get a book from the library on puppy training, including crate training.

You leave the crate open during the day, put some toys and treats in it so the puppy gets used to the crate and goes in by himself. Don't lock it, don't use it for punishment. Once he's used to it, you can leave him in over night.

Put him in the crate and do not remove him until he quiets down! Try covering the crate with a towel if it is of the wire cage variety. It gives it more of a den feeling. He may cry alittle at first. Get tough! Don't allow a puppy to do anything you don't want an adult dog to do.Give him plenty of attention and excercise during the day. A tired puppy is a well-behaved puppy!

convince him that the crate is his safe haven. While he's out and playing throw a toy nearer and nearer, with the door open. Shows him that it won't hurt him. Try also to reward him with treats for entering . At first have him sit by open crate, put treat just inside door, wait till he get the courage to go in to get it. praise and reward with treats.continue by puting it deeper into the crate. If he retreives it, praise him highly. Do this for a day or two. at bed time put an atrical of you clothing (needs your scent) into crate, show him the treat and put it in as well. close the door after you praise him..the first week is always the hardest but with lots of praise and practice he will go in happily. And you will get all the sleep you've been lacking. Good Luck

well you can leave the door open or not use the crate at all , when I got my dog I thought I should try the crate but heck no she flipped out gone crazy so I took the crate back to the pet store and she sleeps on her doggy bed and loves it , well it was about 7 yrs ago . All my other dogs never used a crate on them .

So maybe just put her in her doggy bed but not in the crate , maybe she'll like it more ..

I just dealt with the same thing. I finally put the crate right next to the bed with a ticking clock wrapped in a shirt. I guess the ticking reminds the puppy of her mother's heartbeat. She whined a little at first but I'd just reach down and touch her so she'd know I was there. I've slept every night since!

put a blanket that has your scent in with the puppy after you have let it sleep on your lap...if you can wrap it up in the same blanket while holding it, it will feel secure and not get lonely in the crate...chihuahuas love to be treated like babies and would prefer to sleep in your bed...if you don't mind that, put a blanket on your bed that is folded to its size and make sure it knows that is its spot to sleep...you won't crush it when turning over in your sleep and it will be happy to be close to you...if you don't want your puppy on your bed though, use an open bed before trying to crate it...let it know it isn't going to be harmed when it sleeps...

take him for a nice long walk before bed

give him a small treat when you put him in the crate

and ignore him when he cries hes learning that if he cries you will take him out of the crate

try to keep him in a low traffic room so you dont wake him up when your going to the bathroom or getting something to eat

Well, I have a chihuahua and when she first came to my house, she was crying all night and I couldn't get any sleep either. I realized to just ignore her, because if you keep giving them attention they'll be expecting it all the time, so they'll cry when they want your attention. For the sleeping thing, I would just put your chi far away from your bedroom, so even if you hear his whining a little, it's better than right in your ear. I hope this helped!
