All employees are entitled to vacation pay, the least you can receive is 4% of your gross, in Ontario. I've given you the Federal and Ontario Provincial websites, if you are not in Ontario, google Employment Standards, Vacation Pay, for another province. Some employers pay more than the 4%, but as a general rule they withold vacation pay until one year is up then give you the vacation pay as two weeks paid holiday. If you choose not to take a holiday, the vacation pay will accrue (or build up) until you ask for it to be paid. For some reason, some employers pay the 4% with each pay cheque, but I believe they need special permission to do it. If you quit your job before the one year is up, the vacation pay accrued will be paid with your final pay cheque. Hope that helps.

I get paid for my vacation time. There was a time when I was working part-time for a different employer and my employer paid me 4% in lieu of vacation time.

This is the link for the Province of Ontario's site regarding vacation time and vacation pay: http://www.worksmartontario.gov.on.ca/scripts/defa...

All hourly employees are entitled to a minimum 4% of their gross wages as 'vacation pay'. If you are part time, employers will often pay it to you on each pay cheque. If you are full time, it will accrue until you take holidays, or until you request it be paid out. Keep in mind that they will not automatically pay it when you take your holidays, you often still have to ask for it. If you are salaried, your 'vacation pay' is built in to your regular pay as you will still get your regular pay when you are on holidays.
