I am planning my wife's 40th birthday party, any suggestions?

I have a nice dinner party planned (cocktails, filet, lobster, appetizers, etc.). I invited her closest friends and her sister. I bought her an expensive diamond ring (~5K) (slight catch we recently had an anniversary and she asked for the ring for both her birthday and our anniversary. Is this a trick? is she expecting another present?). Do I have it covered?

The ring was a great gift - for my 40th a couple of years ago my boyfriend got me a ring I had been eyeing for a long time.

I agree with the others who answered - although you got her the really nice ring, get something else small for her to open at the party. A day at the spa is something that's a great treat - but it could also be interpreted as "oh, he thinks I'm a wrinkled hag that needs to go somewhere to look better". You know your wife and what she might think (or ask her sister if she thinks your wife might like it).

If you have kids and haven't done this before as a gift, you could get a silver bracelet with charms (or something with your kid's birthstones) representing your kids. Or maybe just a nice bracelet if you don't have kids.

Sounds like you have a great party planned. Have a wonderful time celebrating!

We are always looking for something else, but it do not have to be something as big. My mother told my dad the same thing for her 50th and xMas because they are so close and he fell for it.

The morning of xMas he did not have anything under the tree and she was upset.

Me and my sisters had him covered, we know women a little better.

You might want to get her a nice chain or something to keep the ring in.

Day at the SPA sounds real good

Of course she will want something else. she will be 40 and that will traumatise her a lot. Send her to an all day spa. Two benefits, she will love it and you won't have to listen to her pout all day about getting old.

It's not a trick. Just don't make with any "Over the hill" remarks. Then you will turn into a dead man! LOL!

Just did the 40th for my wife and worked hard at it. She still complained! Be prepared for an attitude I think turning 40 is tough on them even if they will not admit it!

Good luck, I hope you please her!

I would be more than satisfied...except...something simple and intimate you two do together, just the two of you...use your imagination...

Cyanide, quick and painless, then you get the ring back. Problem solved.
