They might be in perfect condition or the doll might be old so it's expensive. Some people even sell clothes made from them for dolls!

This is a limited edition convention doll. Doll collectors will often pay a lot for dolls that are rare. Madame Alexander is an old very well known company. So since it's a "Madame Alexander" and a "Limited Edition" collectors will pay a lot, speculating that it will appreciate and become even more valuable.

Because people collect them. It is like cars, plates, or antiques. People want them and if they are rare, will pay big money for them. Demi Moore is a great collector of dolls. Said to have a really big and expensive collection. Marie Osmond makes dolls and sells them at those prices.
It is a collector's game.

It might be a collector's item in mint condition. Collectors will pay crazy amounts of money for stuff like that.
