searching for a thick type of beef gravy recipe?
Years ago we had a restaurant here that served sandwiches called beef boats. They were on a baked french type bread. The beef was lean & thinly sliced. Okay...easy so far...huh?! Okay now for the kicker...the beef "gravy" that was on them was rich DARK brown & transluscent...kinda like a real thick beef consumme..it was not just regular beef gravy. Anyone have any idea how I might recreate this type of sauce or gravy? Thanks to all who answer~~

1 can beef broth
1/2 stick butter
1/2 cup flour.
Make a roux by melting the butter then adding the flour to it to make a thick paste. Let cook a few minutes to get the raw flour taste out.
Take half of this roux out of the pot and add the beef broth to it. Stir it up. If it's not as thick as you like then add the rest of the roux.
Enjoy.

You made me positively drool when I read this as I used to just love these beef rolls. I can't tell you how to make the gravy, but when I want a recipe I look it up on the net (and I've been cooking for about 40 + years). Even if you type in the beef rolls recipe required I'm sure you'll get it. I hope you enjoy your beef rolls when you cook them.

You can thicken rich beef jiuce with either clear jel or cornstarch. Stir the starch into the cold liquid and bring it to a boil and gently boil while stiring. It makes a wonderful clear gravy.
