Cable Modem/Wireless Router Help?
Hello,
I was wondering if I have two computers (one upstairs, one downstairs) and i only have 1 cable modem, if I set up my wireless router on the computer with the cable modem, can I have an internet connection with the computer that doesn't have a cable modem?
Thank You
Johnny

Of course ! The main idea (besides increased security) for having a router is to share ONE Internet connection among more than one computers.
1) Are these computers desktops or laptops ?
2) Do they both have wireless Network Interface Cards (NICs) ?
Even if they both have wireless NICs, as the other poster suggested, connect your primary computer to the router via a regular Ethernet cable (for better reliability and ease of troubleshooting).
1) Even if they are both laptops, connect the primary one via a regular cable to set up the router.
2) Be sure to set the Administrator password for the router.
3) Set up the wireless security WEP, WPA-PSK etc (Read the router manual). Run the CD if one came with the router or log onto the Interface in a browser window (with an address like 192.168.0.1, 192.168.1.1 etc.) and run the online wizard.
4) If they are both wired, there is not much else. Otherwise test the one with wireless NIC. If your wireless NIC is external (e.g. USB), it may come with it's own Connection Utility. Otherwise XP has built-in support for detecting and connecting to wireless Access Points (AP). Depending on the router and NIC, you may have to supply the access password each time you start / reboot the PC with wireless connection.

The easiest way to do this is to connect the wireless router's WAN or INTERNET connection to the ETHERNET port on the cable modem, then connect your computer to one of the router's ETHERNET ports.
You may have to power everything off, and then back on in this order CABLE MODEM, ROUTER, COMPUTERS before you can access the internet. Before you do this, find out from your cable company whether or not you have been assigned a static IP, for if this is the case, you will need to configure your router accordingly.

Cable=>Modem=>Router=Wired>Computer A
=Wireless>Computer B
The wireless requires you to have a wireless card or WIreless Access Point for "B". You could have both wireless but if you can do one by wire, it is easier to fix problems later on because wired is much less likely to cause problems.
