What makes a bigger difference is your height. You will move on any sport bike... believe me. You want to go as big as your budget can get you. I'm a very big guy myself and I ride a cruiser, but I've been on a few different sport bikes that have ranged from 600cc to 900cc and they all will get you going.
The most important thing you need to consider is if the FRAME is large enough for you to ride it comfortably for long distances. For instance, a Sportster 1200 was too small for me. My knees were over the tank and it felt like I was being forced to crunch my body up. The Honda Shadow Spirit is an 1100 and I fit on it perfectly because it has a bigger frame.
I like the Hyabusa for a big sport bike. They only change the body style about every 4 years, so don't hesitate to look for an older model with low miles. You'll save a bunch and get a bike that will look and perform just like a new one. I'm in the market for one right now and it looks like 8 grand will bring one home.

A lot of it depends on how and where you are going to ride it. I concur with the comment to ride by yourself without a passenger for a long while before you put your girl on the back. If you are planning on rides somewhat far cursing at Highway speeds, a 600cc is much to small, even for just yourself. If you are planning on running around town then a 600cc is plenty, if it is air cooled the engine will get very hot in stop and go traffic. Get a bike that you can be proud of. After years of riding dirt bikes, my first street bike was a 95 Yamaha V-Max. Way to much bike for my abilities but I put 200 miles a day on that bike everyday! It had everything I could have dream of. I weigh 290 to 315, I m 6 !". My friend, with all his tattoos and bravado, was scared of motorcycles he bought a 800cc Suzuki Marauder, had it 4 Months jumped up to an 1100 Star, 3 years on that now hes into a Harley. My Uncle had himself a 600 Suzuki in the early 80 s. My dad the infamous Honda CB 750. Man did they look tacky. My friend "fat-Man" was 300lbs, talked his dad into buying him an RM80, that poor bike! Most motorcycle riding schools that have bikes on hand, provide 150cc bikes to get schooled on. Get yourself a mild, tame 1100 cruiser, sport cruiser, a do everything go anywhere carry all your gear bike. Trust me an the gear, even the smallest amounts of rain fell like a thousand needles poking you. 750cc is the smallest I would go if you want to cruise on the highway for over 50 miles at time. 300lbs 1100cc Perfect!

For a 300lb person with experience....a Kawasaki ZX-14 or Suzuki Huyabusa. With no riding experience you better start on something ALOT smaller not in the sportsbike class.

Great, another fat guy on a crotch rocket. You guys look like clowns on those things.
At least on a cruiser being fat kind of fits the biker image.
