what should I suggest to family about anxiety?

I have a fam. member who has been struggling with a serious case of anxiety. Has seen three or four different doctors and none of them seem to do anything about it. I have seen for myself that it is affecting fam and friends and marriage what should I suggest. I know that meds aren't always safe but they need something to get them through this. They have tried herbal remedies to no avail. Why is this not taken morre serious?

It sounds like the physician should have put the person on some meds as well as counselling. It is a real condition and I would definately change doctors if they do not seem to understand how real this is.

I get serious anxiety and I take 2000 mg fish oil when I get "attacks" (Barlean's brand, $$$ but worth it, health stores only). It calms me down in about an hour or sooner - but it depends on your individual metabolism. I take up to 4000 mg of fish oil every day, and up to 4000 mg flaxseed oil (Barlean's also). If you can't find Barlean's another brand will probably work fine. You might also try Omega-3 supplements of different kinds.

Try a Vitamin B supplement - stress depletes the B vitamins in your body.

I take medication too, but I hate playing around with that. The oils are safer.

I use Lorazepam for anxiety and anger. I only use it when I need to. Basically it just gets you to normal so there's not a huge chance of addiction but you can never tell. Also there's Ativan which I think is the same just faster.

    good luck
