Some things were recovered and some were lost. You would have to see the degree and size of the area of destruction to understand how things might not have been found. I don't think there was a vast gold robbery, it would have required thousands of people to be involved in a conspiracy.

gold is a relitive soft metal and was probably stored near the bottom of the towers. i think that when they collapsed, it smashed the gold to smaller piecs and they are all still under all of the rubble
