Classic Country Fans,ROBERT DUVALL "OUT"~ BLAKE SHELTON "IN" TO PLAY "THE HAG" IN THE MERLE HAGGARD STORY?

Okie fan,

I don't know who he is either, but I can understand the decision.

I'm 100% straight, but tell Merle that he was a handsome mother@#$@% back then.

And if he likes that, ask him if I can play Wynn Stewart! :)

I love Robert Duvall as an actor and as a singer. However if they are only doing a "young" Haggard, Robert Duvall won't do.

I love Blake Sheldon, he could definitely handle the singing, and he is gorgeous! However, he's 6'6" tall. The last time I looked Merle is about 5'7". As much as I love Blake, I think they could find someone else who better matches Merle, physically.

Kenny Chesney is about the right size, however, Kenny doesn't have the looks, or the attitude required. They need someone who fits the whole package. I really hate to end my comments without some positive input, however, I just can't think of the "perfect" person to play Merle. Perhaps Marty Stuart.

Blake Shelton!!! surely their are better actors or entertainers that could have played Merle. I have nothing against Blake, he has some very good songs out but as far as playing a young Merle i don't see the connection.

Blake Shelton was a judge on the last Nashville Star. He has a quick wit about him and also a "potty mouth" (my kinda guy, lol).

If he plays Merle, he is gonna have to do something with that long curly hair!! I've heard his voice, but it must be mediocre because I really don't remember, but if Reese Witherspoon and that Phoenix guy can play June Carter and Johnny Cash, for crying out loud, then Blake should be o.k. to play Merle. At least Merle is still here to approve it.

Blake Shelton would be a good young Merle. Blake did the song "Ol Red". I out a link to You Tube of his video for "Ol Red". In the video he has long hair, but he has recently cut it. There is a link below for his official website where you can see pics of him now w/ short hair. I have known Blake for awhile, we grew up in the same part of OK. I will have to see if I can find out from his family if Merle has said anything to him. This is the 1st I have heard. He would be good though.

P.S. Blake also did the song "Some Beach" Don't know if you know any of the songs, but they crake me up. I love playing "Ol Red on my guitar because it is such a fun song to play.

well, I only know blake shelton by his songs...I would love to see if he has any acting ability in him....I am glad that they would choose to go w/ a country singer over a hollywood person....I am just curious if they will have blake sing Hags songs like they had the actors do in "walk the line"

I am a fan of blakes music and only hope that he can do us country fans proud on the big screen....although i wasnt even aware they were making a movie of Merle Haggards life.....

I'm a Robert Duvall fan and I think they made a serious mistake. Never heard of Blake. Duvall is a great actor.

I really don't know if he's right for the part or not,but if Merle's O.K. with it I look forward to seeing it.I do like some of Blake's songs and he is from Oklahoma

Blake Shelton is one of them younger "singers". I would prefer Duvall. I added another verse to my song as Jubal requested. I think he had a great idea.
