~~frozen fish question~~?

Okay...I've had some frozen whitefish fillets in the freezer for probably 7 months...by the way..they were already frozen when I bought them. Are they still good to eat or should i pitch 'em?

Open the package and check for freezer burn or funny smells. It's probably better to err on the side of caution and pitch it, because unless it was in a special freezer bag or wrapped in extra foil it's probably absorbed some strange smells that will show up as you cook it.

I’d toss. I just wouldn’t take the chance. 7 mos ago was winter- but it might still have had the chance to defrost a little while finishing grocery shopping, load/unload car, up until it got to your home’s freezer.

I think you should pitch them. Fish is a food that is really delicate when it comes to the length its stored in the refrigerater. I know we buy fish all the time, fresh, and if you don't cook it that day it goes bad like 2 days later.

no safety measure or warning label could guess that there was something wrong with the fish that has grown in 7 months. of all rotten things to eat, fish is the worst.

If they've been frozen solid all this time they're ok.

Fish smells rank if it's bad.

    they were flash frozen

    When you bought them

and as long as the package is not damaged I would use them

defrost them /rinse under cold water and smell the fish

if it smells and looks edible then its probably OK

I WOULD PROBABLY TOSS THEM ONLY BECAUSE THEY MAY HAVE FREEZER BURN AND THEY MAY NOT TASTE AS GOOD.........I'VE DONE IT WITH MEAT AND THE TASTE IS HIDEOUS!! I WOULD TOSS THEM FOR TASTE REASONS, AND FREEZER BURN!
