Is there anything that can prevent my XM radio from cutting out while driving?

Whenever I am on the road, the XM cuts out many times during a 1 hour trip. I called tech support and they said I am in a "dead zone". I am using a Delphi SkyFi 2 and the tape deck attachment, which does sound good while it is playing.

Update:

I am not in the "middle of nowhere". My drive is from Long Island, NY to Queens, NY and it happens even when there is nothing overhead. This is even on clear stretch of roads (a Parkway). Maybe XM just sux!

That must be really frustrating. The only time my XM cuts out is under overpasses, the bank drive-through, etc. But if tech support says it's a dead zone, it must be true. Probably because you are at the very edge of the signal limitations. All the things going against you:

    upper Northeast

    Peninsula

    basically off the mainland US

I'm in Florida and there is a repeater in my city, so we don't have that problem, but I wouldn't be surprised if some folks did down in the Keys.

But the actual answer to your question is: "I guess not." Sorry, bud.

Tall buildings and overpasses can interrupt your signal. You must have a clear line of sight from your receiver to the sky. If you're in the middle of no-where then you probably are in a dead zone as they said.

Airplanes flying overhead can interrupt the signal for a moment.
