License plate holes on 2006 cobalt?

I have a 2006 chevy cobalt but there are no holes or anything for a license plate in the front. Am I supposed to drill holes? Why wouldn't they be there?

You are missing the front license plate bracket. The bracket can be bought at any chevy dealership parts dept. The bracket is installed with three rivots and takes about two minuites to install.Hope this helps.

They don't put these on all cars, but the ability to install them where the factory wants them are. There is just a couple or three dimples in the front fascia. You will have to have the car clean to see these as they are not meant to really stand out. All cars were supposed to come with the front license plate and brackets, but most were in the trunk and tossed by the first owner. You simply have to drill the dimples to the proper size and install a self locking grommets and attach the plate bracket to them.

Cars usually don't come from the factory with front license plate brackets, because (as Sunidaze mentioned), some states do not require a front plate. So the factory doesn't want to muck-up the front if they don't have to (a lot of people find the front plate unsightly anyway).

So, it is the dealer that installs the front plate bracket when the car is delivered from the factory. If your car does not have a front plate bracket it is likely your state does not require a front plate.

Some states don't require front license plates. What I have done at least twice with a new car is go to the dealership and have on installed. I advise you to do the same, and you should not be charged for this.

Because they were not added to the options list.

I live in Michigan where you only need the rear plate.

Yes - drill it out and get the inserts at the DMV for the screws
