What type of cookware to buy?
I am trying to decide what kind of cookware set to buy. I don't want to spend a lot (no more than $150, at most) and it doesn't have to be the best, but I want a decent set that will last. I am looking at a KitchenAid Gourmet Reserved set for $129.99 (ceramic and aluminum) at amazon but I am clueless about what I really need. I cook often and I have an electric stove. Any advice is greatly appreciated!!

I use caphalon cookware and its amazing. It heats everything up evenly in the pot/pan no matter where it sits on the burner (i also have an electric stove) and I have NEVER had to scrub a pot or pan. All food, even burnt or dried wipes right out. They are a little more pricey but well worth it!

To stay within your budget, T-Fal is the absolute best option. If you can squeeze a little more into your budget, I would recommend moving up to an anodized aluminum type of pan, such as Calphalon or Analon. (I recently upgraded to a mixture of both Calphalon & Analon, having used the same set of T-Fal pans for over 10 years). This past week, I was at the local Meijers (similar to Wal-Mart/K-Mart, based out of MI), and picked up a 1 qt sauce pan (anodized aluminum), made by an Italian company called Bialetti. $14.99 was a very reasonable price, and the quality is comparative to the Analon & Calphalon. Not familiar with what all Bialetti offers in this line, but might be worth a little research for you to see if your budget will allow it.

We have stainless. My wife is a fairly small woman, but she is currently pregnant. She has a very hard time handling the large 12" skillet/frying pan right now. The 14" pan sits in the cabinent unless I use it. Even with a handle on either end, its simply too much for her right now. Cleaning really isn't that hard, its no more than cleaning our cast iron camping cookware.

I swear by my affordable Farber Ware set. It doesnt rust, or ding, or scratch. It's non-reactive whereas Aluminum is not! Ceramic over metal will chip and stain. Many of the non-stick surfaces have a brief shelf life, but you should have one teflon 12" skillet among whatever it is you buy.
Look at the site below - I have been using the "Classic Series 9-Piece Set for 30 years. I love it.

T-Fal. Only brand I will use. When hubby and I got first got married and moved into our first place we had to wait for two weeks on our household delivery (gotta love the Army) and so all the pots and pans we had were in transport but we had to eat so I went to a family dollar and bought a CHEAP set hoping it would last for two weeks. Threw the whole set out the first night and we ate defac for two weeks. But being a chef in the Army and now cooking professionally I will only use T-Fal at home. The set I have now I have had for six and a half years and I am only now starting to see wear on the most used pieces.

For your price range, Cuisinart is a good brand. They have non-stick pots and pans. Food storage containers are a must and the Kitchenaid ceramic ones are great!

Over the years I have had pans that I never used. Before buying, think of what you really need for your type of cooking.

I have had all types of cookware in my life. I really do like the T-FAL non stick cookware set. It's cheap and decent quality.

i really like the T-Fal sets at wal-mart. they cook evenly and have a teflon coating so it's non-stick cookware.
they have a nice weight and sturdy handles.
i have pots and pans and skillets from T-Fal and i love all of them.
they wash well, i put them in the dishwasher and i never have to worry about drying spots like you do if you get a stainless steel set.
my friend loves her calphalon set, but i'm too cheap to buy them and besides, if one gets ruined, it's not too much money to buy a replacement at wal-mart.
(my husband made mashed potatoes for me one night and used the beaters INSIDE the teflon pot) needless to say, it was ruined and i had to go buy a new one. the nice part...i didn't have to save for a week to do so! :)
