why can't I open external urls on some websites?

Most of the websites I go on show urls on a subject or downloads that open a page to only a transparent page that doesn't show an url in the address bar. The page never brings up the page I am trying to connect to. After about 5 minutes of waiting and staring at a transparent screen, it goes to a white page with the message "Page cannot be found". Some pages allow me to view the urls without any trouble, but the majority do not. This just started this week and I can't find any reason why it does this and can't find any information of where or how to fix it. Does anyone know what this is and how to fix it?

    Dear susan,

There are various reasons why this happens:

    1. The targetted URL is down (either their server problem, or the URL is taken away.. no longer there)

    2. Your IP is blocked by that website, if this is the case, you can always use proxy. However, I dont suggest this. Another alternative is to disconnect and reconnect your modem to change the IP automatically.

    3. Your browser is working offline. This can be checked in File>Work Offline. Make sure that it is unchecked. Where is File? It is in the Top Left corner of your screen.

There are more specific reasons, however the 3 points above pretty much cover most of the 'why it doesnt load' problem in the Internet.

    Hope this helps.

    Kind regard,

    Ryonn

Most likely causes are restrictions on your firewall, DNS server, pop-up blocker, or parental controls. If any of these have changed recently, it may cause the problem.

    I would also run a virus/spyware scan.
