Not sure about current Gateway laptops but Gateway used to have an excellent reputation. In the past few years their quality has slipped a lot and people have been weary about them.
Newegg is the bomb and you cant go wrong if you buy there.
My best advice is to spend the most money you can afford on a laptop.

Gateway used to be a top brand about 5-10 years ago. Now they are a second level company about to be bought out by Acer. They used to have Gateway stores all over the place with the spotted cow logo.

Gateways are not very reliable, so you shouldn't take a chance getting a Gateway computer. Instead, you should get a high quality Toshiba laptop. I would highly recommend a Toshiba Satellite M65-S9092. I have one, and I love it. It is very reliable, and it doesn't have any problems.
