How to improve my "ups"?

I play basketball and I would like to jump higher. I have weights at home and want to train my leg muscles. What leg muscles help me jump higher and what kind of weight training should I do? Does jump roping help?

    Try building the muscles in your thighs; running helps and try some squat thrusts too, deadlifts and leg presses help also. Though I like that your jumping rope! :D
