BMP format?

I want to write a program where the output file is in BMP format. Where online can I find the detailed specs for the various kinds of BMP formats so the output file will open correctly in a graphics program?

    I'd start by searching Google or Yahoo! for "BMP file format" Should be a wealth of information there.
