Another question about a dog's memory and concept of time?

I searched and saw several questions answered about dogs remembering. This one is a little more complex. Our old dog, 13 years old , has been with our 15 year old son all of her life. My son had a close friend who practically lived here from the time he was 4 until he was 12. One day this past summer, 2 neighbor boys were in our yard. They are 8 years old. Our old dog was puzzled. It was if she thought they were my son and his friend.. as if it were a flashback to 7 years ago. Do you think she realized that these were not the same 2 boys?

that's interesting, good question... i don't think we can know for sure. who knows if she thought it WAS your son & friend, but i'm sure your dog was definitely reminded of them. maybe that's all it was. but like i said, i really don't think you coudl know for sure!

Your question is puzzling. How would you know that your dog took them to be your son and friend. I do know as dogs age there perception is not as good. These young children may have did something that the dog recognized as your son and friend.

But at that age you will have to related to how a Senior Citizen acts in their older age. Just be happy you have had her this long and continue loving her not matter who she thinks other people are.

    Best wishes
