For some reason Akinori Iwamura's bat was taken away at Torre's request earlier...
D-Ray manager Maddon decided to do the same thing to A-Rod when he got to the plate.
It was just a case of a paranoid manager (Torre) thinking the world is plotting against his Yanks. I guess working for Steinbrenner for so long would do that you...

don't worry about jft_24 he's just one of the bandwagon Red Sox fans.
Anyways, they did it because they were angry that the Yanks thought Iwamura was using an illegal bat because it has an irregularly shaped end.
