What's better Frontpage or Dreamweaver, for a beginner?

What do you suggest for someone who is a beginner at making web pages, Frontpage or Dreamweaver? Also, where can I get these programs from?

Thanks

It depends on your long-term objective.

If all you want to do is get some content on the web in a hurry, without having to learn design skills and half a dozen other programs at the same time, then definitely, FrontPage.

However, if you get to the point where you want to do ANYTHING fancy... or get hired by a web design shop for instance, then if you started with FrontPage, you'll find that you now have to learn everything over again with Dreamweaver. Which, while more intimidating to learn at the start because of the many features and options, in the long run will serve you better.

There, now that I've covered your two choices, let me say that I actually prefer neither. The best web design tools are free... NVU, Active State Komodo, Eclipse, The Gimp, Open Office Writer... and of course, a basic text editor like Notepad, along with a program to get your files online, like Filezilla.

Both have their own unique features. Frontpage is excellent for Novice and Beginners. But if u wanna make excellent and Attractive Webpages, then Dreamweaver is the best, Bcause it supports lot more things than Frontpage, Like CSS and all.

If you are looking to create a simple web site, you might try an on-line, WYSIWYG web site creator instead. I've been using the web creation system from homestead.com for over a year and it is great. Frankly, in just a few minutes, you can get up an running. They have templates if you want to create something fast.

But I just create my own. I printed their manual and then created a test web site that I could try things out. Soon I learned what elements they had and how I could put them together to achieve what I wanted.

Do not use such programmes. They wont help you - it will make worse (except a few times). Go to web tutorial such as w3schools, start learning syntax, the main programming idea, etc. In addition it will be free of charge so there will be no need to pay up to 100$ for such programmes :)

Neither. The best way to learn is to do. These programs do things for you. Learn your coding rules, syntax, best practice, and documentation standards and then use one of these applications.
