Why was Einsteins iq not overly impressive, so why was he able to extrapolate so well?

Everybody thinks that Albert Einstein's IQ was very high, but this is definitely not the case, his adult IQ was just above 160. He was definitely a genius, but this was not primarily due to his IQ, but his amazing level on transcendental thinking. Transcendental (= raised, sublime) thinking means that he can raise his thinking (i.e. the paths it takes) above the ordinary level. Basically it means that he was extremely creative and imaginative. An IQ score is a combination of brain speed and brainpower. You have a certain amount of time to take an IQ test, but if you don't mind the time and just make the test and take more time than allowed, you can score up to 30 points higher. So Albert Einstein's IQ was just above 160 (which is also very high) but he takes his time and he raises his thinking to an amazing level and then you can compare him to somebody with an IQ of 200. So Einstein had a lot of brainpower but his brain speed compared to brainpower was low.

Was Einstein's IQ tested during his lifetime?

Even if it was, IQ tests weren't as sophisticated then as they are now.

I don't think we know for precisely what Einstein's IQ was, except that he was somewhere in the genius range.

Though Einstein had to have been much smarter than average, all success (including his) is also influenced by other factors such as hard work and of course luck. So looking back, we tend to assume his success was solely because of his genius. But maybe he was just a run-of-the-mill genius (like tens of thousands of other people) who got extremely lucky.

einstein never had an iq test, so all estimates of his iq are just guesses.

there is no particular reason why einstein's iq needed to be spectacularly high. the iq measures a person's ability to solve the sort of problems one normally expects to encounter in an intelligence test. einstein's particular gift was to be able to think in radically new ways. there is no test for genuine originality in thinking (nor could there ever be such a thing).

IQ tests aren't (obviously) the be-all and end-all to gauge one's overall intelligence. Einstein is and was actually beyond such tests as his intelligence was light years beyond what any author of a test could imagine. Einstein was truly a pioneer in many areas, including those which proclaim to be able to monitor how intelligent one is...except given his superior capabilities, no one could possibly have monitored his IQ; it was off the charts.
