Help...my tattoo is healing waaay lighter than it looked when first done?
Ok I got a dark blue tattoo 8 days ago. I practiced all the normal healing procedures such as a&d ointment and washing and all that. In the past 2 days it has begun to peel off where the tattoo was done. It WAS dark blue but now as it peels all the dark blue is peeling off and what is left underneath is much lighter than I wanted. Granted it has only been 8 days, will this lighter color go backto the original darkness of the finished tattoo? A friend told me it would get dark again and that what I was seeing was like when you have a scab that falls off and the new skin underneath is all light pink instead of normal (caucasian) flesh color. So will this lighter color get dark again....Do I need the entire tattoo to be done over again in a darker color...remember the color he used ws one shade away from being black.

sometimes the ink will look lighter because of the healing skin. in one of my tattoos when the scab came off it was gray instead of black but about a week later it was back black. wait until it has been 30 days since you got your tattoo and then that is what it should look like permanently. if it's not dark enough you may have to get it touched up.

Your friend was right. After the scab comes off, usually tattoos are a milky lighter version of what they will eventually become. Your tattoo is still healing, and I hope that you're still putting on unscented lotion to keep it moisturized. Just be patient, and if you've been taking good care of your tattoo like you say...it will all turn out for the best in the end.

Not to worry! I have a tattoo (#27) that I just got 5 days ago and it is going through the same process. Started peeling like crazy (I have some large solid areas) and the color underneath looks a lot lighter. This is as expected.
Your friend is right, the final color will be much darker than what you are seeing now and I doubt you will need it touched up.
Just keep taking good care of it.

Don't worry. The healing seems very normal (peeling in 6 days), and it is normal to see the color of the tattoo look lighter than like it was just done. Just continue with the after care (unscented body lotion everyday), and the color will be back to normal in a few weeks time.

It is normal for the tattoo to look lighter in the healing process. You are seeing it through a layer of skin, so it will look lighter than it really is.

This is normal, and on most sheets of permission you sign to be tattooed it makes mention of this. Mine do. If you can't live with it, it'll have to be redone. The reason it's lighter is... the pigment comes out with the scab, and what you're left with is dyed skin.

This is normal. Just give it some time it will go back to dark! Good luck:)

you may need to go back and get it redone.. my son had this happen and they redid it for him free of charge..the colors didn`t come back as some usually do.. be patient and see but if it doesn`t, go back..
