Neil Finn - singer songwriter guitarist - is born in N.z .
listen to the song "mean to me" he mentions birthplace 'Te Awamutu'
The other originals are Australian - Nick seymour and the late Paul Hester.
Both Neil & Paul were in 'Split Enz' - Well known NZ band before Crowded House.

I used to think Australia, but recently, they were mentioned on HBO's The Flight of the Conchords in reference to New Zealand. That show kills me!
Anyway, the answerer who said Australia, NZ and US is correct.

They formed in Australia, but its members were from Australia, New Zealand and the U.S.
