UK Law: Legal opinion on this parking ticket machine issue?

This question refers is a continuation of my previous question of the same subject in this group.

Rowdy – If you’re still out there. I appreciate your very good answer on my previous question and I just want to explore your point a little further.

In my experience most parking ticket vending machines have the charges displayed in blocks of 1 hour periods but will calculate the time to the nearest minute based on the amount you pay. But they all display the wording “no change given”. If this could be shown to be the norm, then I would have to dispute the claim that the words "no extra time given for overpayment" are implicit in the words "no change given". Therefore it could add considerable weight to the argument that the contract (between you and the council) contained an "unfair term" unless clearly stated "no extra time given for overpayment".

What do you think? Am I way off base here?

I appreciate your comments.

Update:

By the way. I am making the assumption here that the expiry time is not clearly displayed on the machine display and giving you the option to cancel the purchase before the ticket is printed and payment is taken.

the council will have cast iron contracts written by busness lawyers, you are merely shooting in the dark. the two statements ..“no change given” and "no extra time given for overpayment" are clearly un related and would not imply each other... in contract laws one thing never implys another, everything is plainly written in a positive manner . otherwise it would be a waste of time having contracts etc... although this doesnt effect your right to complain...

Some municipal car parks may differ? and the charges also may differ? The question of no "change given" if you put a pound coin in and the charge is say 60p for one hour then a one hour period would be recorded. No extra time would be given because the correct amount of 60p would be requested.
