1995 S10 Blazer smell gas on oil dipstick?
In last 1 & half years has had 3 fuel pumps, this last one done by probably shade tree mechanic. Shop charged 900.00. Also put 3 bottles of Lucas fuel injector cleaner at his recommendation. Drove from MO to MN. Car sat couple days and ran rough for couple miles then ran ok. Couple days later tried to start it & it did nothing on first attempt (like battery was dead). On second try it started and ran ok, but not sure why it not starting properly. Called a mechanic friend and he had us pull dipstick to smell for gas and it does. He thinks the fuel regulator is bad. What all should I have him check for. Also this shade tree mechanic supposedly replaced fuel filter, plugs, wires, rotor, cap, ignition switch (twice), windshield wiper motor, blower motor and switch (which has already been replaced). On my trip to MN I attempted to use cruise control and it doesn't work anymore. It did before this guy got ahold of my car. Who to trust???? Can anyone out there help? Thanks.

I don't know about the gas in oil smell not familiar it GM problems do know it can sometimes be caused by a bad valve seal. It's been my experience that the cruise not working all of a sudden is usually precursor to other electrical problems, I don't know why this is but has always been true on my cars within 2 months something gives up sensor, ignition module something its wierd, i wouldn't say that is the case in you instance though. About not getting bad parts anymore that is BS i have never had a autozone, O'rielly's, advance auto, etc.. part last mor than a year and a half. I quit buying from them because of that I buy from manufacturer it costs more but they actually last. after the 3rd "lifetime warranty" alternator and second starter from o'rielly's in 2 years i went to GM bought OEM parts, and drove the car another 4 yrs and 125,000 miles with no problems. probably the your shade tree didn't properly install parts and i'll virtually guarantte that you are missing several nuts and bolts. They don't put "unneeded" bolts on cars they are there for a reason. Chance are he is shade tree cause either he doesn't know enough to get a mechanic job or is too careless in his work to keep a mechanic job. He won't tell you that though. Don't get me wrong there are some really good shadetree mechanics out there but they almost all have either a racecar/dunebuggy, performance bike, some hobby vehicle that they work on all the time, and a huge toolbox full of quality tools. if they leave their tools saying around on the ground what are they going to do with stuff that doesn't belong to them??

Hi! I myself have a 93 GMC Safari van with the 4.3L CMFI (vin w) V6 engine, and i am quite firmilar with the catastrophe you are having with your Blazer. From what you discribe, it sounds like one of the classic symptoms of a bad fuel injector. The nickname for the fuel injector is called a "spider". It is about as big as your fist, has 6 hoses attached to it, and it is located under the plenum on the top of the engine. The injector also has a built in fuel pressure regulator which is not replaceable. That means if you need a new regulator you would have to replace the entire injector. Once the injector gets worse the vehicle will be starting harder, running hotter, burning more gas, emmiting a foul exhaust smell, and blackening your engine oil fast! I drove with a bad injector for almost a year. It was kind of annoying, but i had to get it replaced because the vehicle was hesitating really bad. From what i heard the injectors last about 50,000 miles.

If the oil was milky in color it is actually coolant that has leaked into the oil. Blazers as well as Jimmys are known for blowing the intake manifold gaskets. If this is the case, replace the intake manifold gaskets (take pictures as you go with a digital camera so that you know where everything goes back) drain the oil and remove the filter. Instead of oil, refill with 100% Slick 50 and put on a new filter. Drive normally for about 100 miles. Drain, replace filter and refill with 50% oil and 50% Slick 50 and run for the next 3000 miles. If the internals haven't rusted up, you should be good to go, but there is a good chance the main bearings can go bad depending on how long this had been a problem.

a common problem with mid to late 90s gm trucks and vans is injector failure either not working or sticking open which will cause the gas smell in the oil. as far as the rest of the repairs you have had done sounds like you have some serious wiring issues that is causing you problems cause parts dont fail like that anymore (3 pumps,2 ig switchs,2 blower motors and switchs in 1 1/2 years) you have some electrical problems somewhere good luck on finding someone to figure it out.
