How good is the detroit true trac LSD?

I am thinking about installing a detroit true trac in the rear of my toyota pickup. I have 35" tires and 5:29 gears. I would also like to know why there is a difference between the front and rear true trac. Most lockers are interchangeable. I have looked on the internet for information but can't find any tech sites on the subject. Any help?

    I can't remember where I got it from, but I got a True Trac off the internet and love it. I installed it in a 92 2WD PU, and it works beautifully. The primary reason I replaced it was because with the application we have, the truck kept wearing out spider gears, and the T/T doesn't have any! Very quiet, actually is about an 85% lockup, which is enough for most applications. The T/T replaces the diff cage. If you are careful and know someting about it, you can install it yourself without having any major setup. Let us know what truck you have, and I'll let you know what size ring gears you have front and rear. Keep looking, the info is out there. I will try to have the site by the time I reply.

    If you have an '86 or newer Toy pickup, the rear axle uses the 8" ring gear and the front uses a 7.5" ring gear, so they're not interchangeable. These dimentions might be different for the new Tacomas...I'm not up to date.

    If your truck is an '85 or older, both front and rear ring gears are 8" so they are interchangeable.

    It's supposed to be a fine, full-case limited slip. (Ah, I guess all lim-slips are full-case, as far as I know.)

    I went with a Lock-right in the rear axle and am really happy with it. It goes inside the factory case you can install it yourself and don't need to have the gears set-up. I think its street manners are fine, and off road, it's a true locker. I have 4:1 low-range gears and the locker has held up fine...it's been in there quite a few years now.
