What are the portugesse laws? It doesnt make sense for the police to be restricted on what they can ask!?

Im just interested because i heard earlier that Kate Mccann couldnt be asked various questions because she was a 'Witness' and not a 'Suspect'.......(I know thats supposed to of changed now though) Surely if the police need to know something they should be able to just ask....If im wrong then fair enough!

I have been reading up on this..check out the link but basically under portuguese law, someone who is being questioned as a witness instead of a suspect has to answer all questions asked by the police. As a suspect she will have more rights including the right to remain silent but also the right to have an attorney with them at questioning.
