Your thoughts or view on this....?

Whether to allow human-animal embroys to be created and used for research?

Scientists want to creat hybrid embroys by merging human cells with animal eggs in a bid to extract stem cells. These cells have the potential to take the shape or become any tissue. So if these hybrid cells turn to be something else then...

Also the team from Kings Colleges London and New Castle University have already approved the project to use Hybrid embroys to HFEA.

Can this be a blessing for mankind or the biggest mistake?

If we have the cure for many ailments then..or if we have Chimera or a deadly virus...?

Human Fertillization and Embryo Authority(HFEA) has given go ahead to this project in principle.

Update:

Tom..

Now you are talking not as a scientist.

Update 2:

Why have not we any one else here for answer? Strange.

And Tom..How do you know that they will not develop into full embroys?

I agree with spirit dancer. Those people cannot predict the dangers of what they are doing, and to me it is morally wrong. Another example is the genetic modification of plants.

To me God has created them in the most perfect way and it is not for us to play with creation.

As a scientist I think its a great advance. Remember that these 'hybrids' as you call them will never develop into a viable embyro, its just not possible.

In response to a few of the other answers:

I think the biggest danger facing society today is the lack of fundamental understanding of science by so many people. We have been genetically manipulating plants and animals for thousands of years, only now we have more tools available to us. The medical breakthroughs that are being made thanks to research like this are improving the lives of millions of people and giving hope to people everywhere suffering with debilitating diseases.

i think its a mistake we are investiagting new things that go against the laws of nature and trying to play god (from a religious prespective)

we can use stem cells from the umbilical cord that do the same job we dont need to create other products that in mt view are unnatural.

one more thing if it has the potential to save lives (which it does) id only accept it if no life is being wasted.

I am very divided on this matter, and whilst I agree that what they are doing is for the benefit mankind, I am concerned it could be like opening Pandora's Box.

i think you shouldn't mess with human nature. create something to destroy it for betterment of someone else. who? themselves just to prove they can do something.

It's not nice to play God.
