Any input on Windows XP vs Linux XP?
I have a laptop that came loaded with Vista. I have to clean Vista off and install Windows XP due to some contract work I will be doing (there is a software computability issue). I have been doing some reading on Linux XP and was wondering if this might be a viable option for me. The software I need to run does have a Linux version but what about compatibility with other products (like MS Office and other typical apps).
Any good input will be appreciated.

First step here is to scrap anything "Micro$oft" altogether and get yourself a decent copy of a "real" Linux distro such as Fedora,Ubuntu, mandrake, opensuse etc.
The problem with programs like "Linux XP" "Linspire" (aka "lindows") etc is that they are just trying to rip of the look and feel of xp/Vista and also K.I.S.S (KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID) for the 90% of Windows users that know nothing but how to point and click.
As most of "Bill's babies" are just dumb point and click spoonfed bunny's who shouldn't even own a computers in the first place, then ontop of that "Darth Gate$" is pulling the strings and controlling what you can and can't do with your computer (ever heard of digital rights management?) then I believe that the best bet is to send the prick a message and boycott anything that even resembles Micro$oft junk full stop.
I recommend you download yourself a copy of "Ubuntu" found at "http://www.ubuntu.com"/
It also comes with open office installed and yes you can read/write word documents no problem,90% of them anyway.and best of all NO VIRUSES OR SPYWARE!
But if you must stick with Micro$oft then there is also a product on ebay atm that also allow you to run Windows inside Linux and the other way round as far as I understand, giving you the option of both o/s at the same time without needing to dual boot etc,my mate got a copy a while back and is wrapped so far with it so I guess you can't go wrong!
hope this helps you

Hi, yeah Linux Xp is the distro of Linux that looks exactly like xp right? If u want to try that then sure go ahead but remember that Microsoft Office won't work. Linux comes with an Office suite called OpenOffice, its as good as Office 2007 and its free and is even availible for Windows Xp and Vista. The choice is really up to you though I recommend u don't remove Vista at all if u have it. Windows Xp and Linux Xp are nothing compared to Windows Vista. If u must go back then I suggest that u install Windows Xp as u will be more familiar with it.
Good Luck!
