Why Is Hotel Wireless Network Not Assigning My Laptop A Network Address?
It was working yesterday and the day before- now suddenly it won't connect and keeps giving me a message about "Limited or no connectivity... may not be able to access certain network features or the internet because the network did not assign your computer a network address"
I asked the hotel front desk guy- he was less than interested in helping me. Said the internet was working on the complimentary PC in the lobby. Brought my PC to the lobby thinking maybe having a better signal or something would help- same problem same message. What's the deal? Anything I can do? I'm completely computer-challenged when it comes to these things.

Thanks for the prompt response. I actually did already have the TCP/IP obtain IP address automatically box checked already.
Interesting thing is- I changed nothing yet suddenly the connection is working now??? Wonder if the guy at the front desk refreshed the router or something. I'm not even going to try to guess- it's working now! Thanks for your help though!

The hotel equipment uses a pool of addresses to allocate per machine. If this allocation is fully utilised, or if some part of their network fails, the next machine along will receive this message.

This isn’t really an answer to your question more of a response to my question you just answered I looked at your profile and saw that I couldn’t email you so I decided to get in contact with you this way hope you don’t mind. Yes I am going to take a break I already have a beautiful 2 ½ year old son who was conceived without even trying I was pregnant again on October of 2006 but m/c I am truly blessed to be able to have the one that I got and when the time is right it will happen. I wanted to tell you thank you for being so encouraging and supportive even though I don’t personally know you, you seem like a very sweet person good luck to you:)

Try setting your IP to be obtained automatically:
Goto to My Network Places > View Network Connections > Right Click and open Properties. Scroll down to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) > Properties > now enable Obtain an IP address automatically.
