No, you're absolutely correct. And both sides obviously have wide differences of opinions. However, it is not liberals that question the patriotism of conservatives over differing opinions; quite the opposite. I don't know how many times I've heard that liberals are "for the terrorists" or "are rooting for us to lose", etc... because they believe this war was contrived for ulterior motives.

Here's Webster's definitions:

CONSERVATISM: "a political philosophy based on tradition and social stability, stressing established institutions and preferring gradual development to abrupt change."

LIBERALISM: "a political philosophy based on belief in progress, the essential goodness of man, and the autonomy of the individual and standing for the protection of political and civil liberties."

I don't know a liberal who doesn't want social stability. I don't know a conservative who doesn't believe in the essential goodness of man. So, based on Webster's definitions, I'm inclined to believe that there's a little bit of conservatism and liberalism in almost all of us.

We tend to attach phony labels to ourselves after listening to radio talk-show propagandists whose mission is to fill us full of hate, bias and bigotry. Truth be known, most of us don't even know the true definition of the labels we use with which to define ourselves! Instead of using childish name-calling tactics, abusive language, hate-mongering, bigotry, and juvenile barbs to further divide our nation, all of us would be better served if we would bond together to unite our people and destroy the monopolistic, corrupt two-party political system that deliberately wants us to remain opponents. It is in their best interests not to bring people together and not to allow voters more choices in elections. That only dilutes their possibilities of being elected and re-elected and re-elected and re-elected until they join the privileged political royalty that abandons the people and surrounds itself in power and wealth.

Yeah, there are some 'bad' liberals - just as there are some 'bad' conservatives. The big problem is that this whole bitter system is bloated with political bile that achieves nothing other than creating dissention, division, and discourse among a free people. -RKO- 09/09/07

maybe this is bashing, but my experience in decades of living has been that liberals have stronger moral values than conservatives....quite the opposite of what I hear conservatives say on this site....in my experience conservatives are ruthless business people, car salesmen, tax cheats, bullies, sexual predators, etc. etc. not all liberals and not all conservatives, but it trends that way....so i get steamed when hear so many conservatives attacking the moral values of liberals.....

I find it shameful that political debate in this country has been reduced to name calling and rhetoric. The world is not going to fall apart if a Democrat takes office. It could even get better.
