wanted a simple dessert recipe to impress?

I am having a dinner party and am stuck for dessert recipes. I am after something simple, not to complicated to put together, that preferrably can be made in advance. But I really want something that will impress, something with a bit of 'Wow factor'. Can anyone help?

My secret weapon is trifle. When I take it to work, I don't include the alcohol, though. (we'd probably be happier if I left it in!!!)

Large bowl, preferably footed - or a trifle bowl

Prepare two batches of vanilla pudding

Thaw a big container of whipped topping (not fresh - it needs to have the gelatin in it to keep shape)

Bake or purchase a pound cake and cut into 1/2" slices

    Seedless raspberry jam

    Godiva liquor or Chambord

    Seasonal fruit, washed, peeled, etc.

In a very small pot, warm the raspberry jam and add liquor to taste. (if you want the taste, but not the alcohol, let it simmer very slowly to evaporate the alcohol)

Brush each side of the slices of poundcake and make one layer in the bottom of the bowl.

    Add a layer of pudding

    Add a layer of fruit

Add a layer of whipped topping

Repeat until the bowl is full. Use remaining fruit to decorate top. Cover with plastic wrap and put in the fridge for a day or two for the flavors to meld.

Looks awesome and tastes even better.

Since it's a party w/ other nonveg in attendance, you need to have something "normal" people will eat and enjoy. Your MIL can pick and choose from what is offered. Try roasting some chickens w/ roasemary. Stuff cavity w/ onion, garlic, and lemon or apple. On a separate sheet, roast white potatoes, sweet potatoes, onion, fennel bulb, butternut squash or pumpkin, and carrots. Drizzle and toss all w/ EVOO and S&P, roast. Serve w/ a hearty artisan bread. An appetizer coudl always be cheese and caramelized onion quesadillas... toss a bit of salsa and maybe a few canned black beans to the filling before grilling them for great flavor. Cheese fondue would also be nice. Serve w/ apple wedges (again, she doesn't have to eat those), bread cubes, and celery sticks. Maybe chocolate fondue for dessert? Serve w/ marshmallows, pineapple hunks, banana hunks, oreos, Nutter Butter cookies, even thin pumpkin pie slices (can put the choc fondue on top of a slice).

If you want to eat truly healthy, lose body fat consistently, normalize your blood pressure, cholesterol levels, prevent cancer, and even boost your brain health and energy levels, you may have heard all over the news that the Paleo Diet has been found to be one of the best methods of achieving all of these benefits compared to any other popular "fad" diets out there. Go here https://bitly.im/aMHKi

The truth is that the Paleo Diet will never be considered a fad because it's just simply the way that humans evolved to eat over approximately 2 million years. And eating in a similar fashion to our ancestors has been proven time and time again to offer amazing health benefits, including prevention of most diseases of civilization such as cancer, heart disease, alzheimers, and other chronic conditions that are mostly caused by poor diet and lifestyle. One of the biggest misunderstandings about the Paleo Diet is that it's a meat-eating diet, or a super low-carb diet. This is not true

    Very simple Avocado dessert:

Ripe Avocados( 1 large will serve 4), a little milk and sugar.

Peal and mash avocado with a fork, add a bit of sugar to taste and a bit of milk to thin it out. Chill in fridge. Serve in small custard cups. It is very satisfying and healthy.
