I always returned wallets and other things that I found.

a few years back .. I got a check from the tax department... It was a couple of thousand dollars and i DID try to send it back .. they returned it to .. me .. I rang people and tried to send it back again .. it returned again...i called more people.. (in the tax dept ) in the end I banked it.

Be honest and notify their mistake. You would much feel better about being an honest person than being a petty thief by cashing in a measly five hundred dollars.

You've answered your own question ~ return it and avoid the negative energy from doing something that is not only wrong but could very well be illegal!

i did that once, but not intentionally. i received huge checks from school often and just trusted that finance office gave the right amount. when the semester ended, i was charged and had to pay back the full amount they credited me for... and it was more than a thousand.

Send it back, or call them and explain and they can void the check.
