Dog won't pee if it's raining...?

Any advice for a puppy who won't go to the bathroom if it's raining? He doesn't seem scared, more... distracted... like he can't smell where he wants to go.

Obviously, we have no control over the weather, we don't make a fuss (i.e. we're calm about it when he doesn't go) and have tried taking him out, bringing him in, crating... he's 9 months old. He's been needing to go for hours, and he won't go inside bc he's housetrained, but he just won't pee if it's raining!! Any ideas for a desperate puppy? Thanks!

Update:

Thanks for all your suggestions so far!! To add - I'm reluctant to use wee-wee pads, having just weaned our puppy off them... and yeah, we do have a pee phrase, but that doesn't work when it's raining!!

I had to laugh while reading this, cause my 11 year old lab is the same way. Won't even touch the ground with his feet if its wet outside...

Have you tried giving your puppy a cue word/phrase to go - like go potty - just gives the puppy a gentle reminder why they are out there and what they are supposed to be doing...

If there is a dry area around, try taking your dog there - like maybe a carport, underneath the overhang of a house, somewhere outside, but yet not really wet.

At 9 months old he can usually hold his bladder for a few hours, it will eventually stop raining outside and he will go... just keep trying!

She won't pee in the house if you take her out enough times. Pups have small bladders and need to go out often. As far as the rain, you can either use an umbrella over her, a small plastic bag as a rain coat or purchase a rain coat. A dog raincoat comes with a hood also. You'll be in and out in seconds flat.

    Use Piddle pads.

I once had a dog that refused to go out when it rained because he didn't like the rain. It made things rough. He, too, wouldn't urinate inside, just hold it in indefintely. I just started taking out a golf umbrella when it rained and making sure that he was under the umbrella. This took a while but he got used to it.

When my Dog, Duke, Wouldn't go because of rain, wind, cold, or snow, we made him a little area to go it is covered, and easy to get to, So he isn't getting wet, or snowed on or the wind getting him, it worked really well now he only goes in one spot so it is easy clean up too. however my other dog, Sampson, won't go at all he has held for a whole day before he finally went. there was nothing we could do to make him go.

My dog would never go potty outside when it was raining either until I made her stand outside with me in the grass for 30 minutes until she peed a couple times now she runs out in the grass and goes right away.

Maybe if you put a potty pad in a designated spot he may pee there. Like by the door. You can buy them from PetSmart.

Our dog is like that sometimes too...and she's 4. I just try to keep taking her out. Eventually if she really has to go, she'll go. Another thing we do is we'll take her out on her leash (instead of on her rope in the back) and just walk her to the front yard and that seems to work....just take your umbrella :) Hope this helps.
