71 chrysler newport?
im looking at a 71 chry newport royal 2dr, 383mag (dyno-ed at 535hp!), auto, and fairly high mileage, for $1,500, good deal, yes?
i want something similar to the charger and roadrunners, this is it i think but its a one-year prod so i dont know about finding parts for it, but its in good shape
the 535hp is motor dyno, srry i forgot to mention it, hes a good friend, it originally had a 318 (i think)
and hes asking $2200,
and giving me the deal of $1500,
not bad looking,
its a royal too
the paints an ugly color, but no rust other than a lil in the 1/4 panels

I would be worried if it really dynoed 535 horsepower especially if they are selling you the motor that cheap forget about the newport.Plus was it dynoed at the motor or at the rear wheels believe me there is a big difference.I have owned a few C bodys and they held there own against the lighter cars.A while back i had one that used to be the fastest car at the local hot rod hang out on any given night it beat mustangs camaros and even a built 406 nova. When I was younger I had a 1971 new port custom with the 383 in it and i beat an old 389 tri power goat with it.

If it is a true 383 4bbl car, and in good condition, Good body, trim and interior, yes it is a OK deal. If there is bad paint, rust, dented up trip, or bad interior, price should come down accordingly.
It is a way larger car than a charger or road-runner though. Probably at least 1000lbs heavier as well.
This was the first year of the Royal's But not the only year.
Edit: Curious about the validity of their claims that it dyno'd at 535HP. Ask for the report from the dyno for proof. And ask what mod's they did to the engine to do it.

It is a bargain, those cars are getting rarer and the values of those cars are going up, the Newport was made from 1961 to 1981 and they were the entry level model for the Chrysler's from 1961 to 1976.

i would look into getting a two door plymouth fury, with a 426 max wedge, yes it's a good deal if the engine is actually putting out that many ponies. I highly doubt it at that price, was the 383 produced in 71?

Thats a lot of ponies, but its also a lot of sled to move. Not quite the muscle car that Chrysler Corp. advertised in the day.

Newports are cool, but more of that Imperial / Lebaron type. A boat & heavy!
