Black Is Not A Color?

I was just wondering if black is really a color. I know this sounds silly and we all refer 'black' as a color, but i've heard from people that scientifically, its not. Is it true or not?

If you're talking about colors of light ("additive color"), then you might say black is not truly a color because it's just the absence of light. The black text showing on your computer screen right now is made of pixels that aren't lit up. In this sense black is not a color in the same way that silence is not a sound -- it's nothing.

When it comes to colors of things like paint or dye ("subtractive color") then black is definitely a color. The subtractive color system starts with white. You can put different substances on a white object to make it any color you like. If you were reading this message printed on a white piece of paper, the black text would be black colored ink.

technically, no, it's not, but it's only theoritcal that it's not a color. People who say 'black' isn't a color think that black is just the absence of light. Light is everywhere, though. Less here, more there, but light is everywhere. However, what we perceive as black isn't really 'black' in that sense. It's still a color, just a very dark one. We couldn't see it otherwise.

Our perceptions can only tell us so much about truth about something. However the human ego often likes to assume what it perceives to be the truth.

    Black is a color/pigment.

Scientifically black is what we see when there are no electromagnetic waves in visible spectrum around.

    It is a color

well if you want to be precise. black is a color, but in fashion industry black is considered a neutral , still color, but neutral. meaning any other color will go with it. as oppose to red which would have to be color coordinated with other colors
