Are advanced Uncorrected proofs more or less valuable then the actual first edition novel of a modern author?

Much less valuable. They are basically galleys. Still filled with errors. They get sent to critics, book buyers etc. so they can get excited over a book and start plugging it. They are generally thrown away. However if you are talking about a first edition of a modern author, for the most part, there isn't all that much value at this point and I doubt there will be due to the huge volume in first runs of major authors today. The value is in limited first editions and signed first editions. And the first edition of the first novel of an author who is currently hot. For instance, a first edition of Michael Connelly's first novel The Black Echo goes for a few hundred bucks. A first edition of his current book, practically nothing. Pax-C

"Uncorrected Lesser Version," not likely to have extra value at any time once the actual book is released. If you got ahold of a major author's book before the release date of the actual book, then you would have some takers, I'm sure, and could auction it off online (I won't go into the ethics of that). Once the final version of the book is available for sale to the public, the advance reader's copy has no extra value. It is likely to have misspellings, and it's possible that some things could be changed in the final version, although I myself haven't ever noticed a change in the actual story of the ones I've read. Since you bought the book as a gift, I think you should ask for your money back. Give the person a gift certificate or a printout indicating that the book has been ordered (cross off the price from the website's page, or you could make up a certificate yourself in Word). You may want to explain what happened so the person you're giving it to knows the tardiness of the gift is not your fault. Just say you wanted them to have a better version with the photos in it. Unless you truly don't think they'll care. Personally, I probably would. You can't exchange advance reading copies at a bookstore either, since they aren't sold at retail stores. Sorry you got this misrepresented book!

The first edition of any author, being a Nora Roberts, John Patterson,Dean Koontz etc.is of more value especially if your first edition has their authentic personal signature written in your novel.First edition rocks if all above meets the criteria mentioned.Advanced Uncorrected proofs hinder in value are due to the fact , they are not a first edition book period.

No they are not more valuable unless they are signed by the author or have personal notes by the author or a famous editor.

while reading a book, you're stimulating the human brain. You improve your reading and literacy skills and also you in the process, are more literate. Even with today's modern tools, you need to be in a position to read still.
While watching t.v. can be good fun, it is not doing anything to your brain.
