my computer keeps shutting off?

My laptop keeps shutting itself off when i try to do anything that requires a lot of ram (?) like playing a game or running a virus or spyware scan.

I keep it relatively clean with a can of dust off, and have a chill-mat to keep it from over heating.

Lately even when im not doing anything, the CPU usage will be between 20 and 100%. If it runs at 100% for too long then it shuts off.

any ideas?

Update:

when it shuts off, theres no blue screen, everything just shuts off as if i had hit the power button. it doesnt reboot itself.

The CPU usage will be 100% for whatever im using at the time (virus scan, spyware checker, firefox, ect)

Do you see a blue screen when this happens? If so, that means there is a problem in Windows, possibly with a driver.

If you don't see one, then does it turn all the way off or just reboot? If it's all the way off, then it is probably overheating or you have a bad battery or power supply. I know you said you have a chill-mat, but sometimes they don't work as well as we need them to!

I assume you know the CPU runs at 100% because you looked on the Task Manager(the cntrl+alt+del thing), right?

If so, Task Manager should also tell you what process is using your CPU. Tell us that, and then we would be able to give you a more accurate answer.

    Also, one more question:

When you say that it shuts off, how exactly does it do it?

I mean, does it go trhough the whole shutting down process, does it look like you just removed all power from it(sudden shut down), or does it do something else?

you have too much adware/spyware. also a chillmat wont cool the cpu. 100% cpu usuage can cause lots of heat.
