You have to get the #7 Flushing train at Times Square. Take the #1 or the Q or the N or the R train uptown one stop to Times Square, and then take the #7.

The 7 is the only one to Shea. Get an uptown-bound or Queens-bound A, C, E, 1, 2, or 3 to 42nd Street. Get a Queens-bound 7 there. OR, you can take a Queens-bound E train to Roosevelt Avenue, then go upstairs for the 7. The E runs express through Queens, so it's fast. I'd only consider this option if the E was the first one that came along.

On the 7, the express WILL get you to Shea. Take it if it comes, it'll save you about five minutes. The express shows the 7 in a diamond instead of a circle, with the word "Express" underneath.

On Mets game days, the Long Island Rail Road also goes right to Shea Stadium. You can get that at Penn Station. It's a bit more expensive ($4.25 off-peak), but it's much faster. By the way, the LIRR's $3 "CityTicket" option on weekends is NOT valid for trips to Shea Stadium.

Take the 1,2 or 3 train uptown to Times Square then transfer to the Flushing bound 7 train. Shea Stadium is the 2nd to last stop and the station is elevated so you'll be able to see the stadium before getting to the station.

This isn't a subway but the LIRR is the fastest route. It's about 15 minutes from Penn to Shea. Board a Port Washington train.

Take the 7 train to Flushing, or you can take LIRR to flushing. The 7 train is a subway from Times Square and cost $2. The LIRR leaves from Penn Station and costs a bit more, but is a much more comfortable ride.
