My female has started her cycle, is think somewhat the norm with it??

Ok she started about a week ago which is fine I have been cleaning up her spots on the floor but her bedding I was gonna wait til she was over it to wash it, well now I notice she has an odor its not pleasant. Is it because of her bedding is dirty with her stuff or what ? I have not taken her for the normal walks so that I don't have an altercation with horny males so there is nothing that could have gotten at or in her ya know. I have since washed her bedding today, the odor started about friday afternoon. HELP ???

Update:

I don't want to spay her until she is done growing, she is 9 months old and she is a great dane. She still has poss 9 more months to grow. I have weighed this issue I feel it is best for her if I wait til she is full grown. I DO NOT want her to breed at all. She is my first female, all my other pups have been male so this is new to me, though I did know this would happen I still am new to the whole having a B in the home besides me !!! lol Thank you for all your answers. Her health is priority but at the same time I don't want to run to the vet everytime she farts a differ way. Thanks again.

There are several issues but first glad you cleaned the bedding because that does contribute to the smell. As to some of the other comments if you are not planning on breeding her you should go ahead and get her spayed, this will reduce her chances of getting breast cancer and eliminate her possibility of getting cervical or ovarian cancer.

Now for the smell, those are most likely pheromones. Its the dogs way of attracting males to let them know she is fertile. There are deodorants you can get at pet stores to remove the smell. Also keep the area as clean as possible. I'm sure you don't leave dirty sanitary pads all over the place, so treat her the same. Also you may want to invest in diapers as this will make clean up much easier. They are also available in pet stores.

Good luck with whatever you do.

call the vet and make an apt. for the dog to get spayed you can do it while she is in heat so don't worry about that . And besides the vet is the best one to help out with that sort of question just because not all dogs react the same .

The odor certainly could be from her dirty bedding. I'd keep it clean, and go ahead and give her a bath.

Is there a reason you haven't spayed her? There's so many benefits to spaying, and no real reason not to.

In heat b!tches tend to have such an odor. One of the benefits of spaying is the elimination of that.
