Keyboard problems ?

I just bought a new keyboard - it's exactly the same as my old one , same brand, same size, same layout etc except that it's black - why then am I having so many problems with it - I'm getting typos all over the place and hitting wrong keys constantly - is it just the colour that's throwing me off so much ??

Just because the keyboard is the same as your old one, just a different colour, shouldnt make any difference to your typing, what could make a difference is if the internal components of the keyboard of have been updated. The keyboard membrane may be different, meaning you may not be pressing the keys hard enough, or the keys arent as sensitive as your old keyboard. May mean a few missed letters. Extra letters could mean the keyboard is more sensitive, just slightly touching the key next to the one pressed could do it. Does this keyboard need drivers as I know some do, it could be you need to update the drivers. Drivers are usually only needed if the keyboard has extra functions tho. Or as others have said, it could be a dud, it does happen.

    Hope this helps.

It sounds as if the problem is mainly due to the colour of the new keyboard although that should not be a problem if you're a touch typist - unlike me!!

However, if you are in the UK sometimes the @ and " symbols get reversed e.g if you press @ then " is displayed and vice versa.

If this is part of your problem go to Start > Control Panel > Regional and Language Options.

Click on the 'Regional Options' tab. In the drop down list, select 'English (United Kingdom). Then click on the 'Languages' tab and click on the 'Details' button'. The default input language should be 'English (United Kingdom}'. Also, under 'Installed services', you should have 'English (United Kingdom)' at the top of the list - if it is not there add it to the list by clicking the 'Add' button

It probably is just a defective keyboard hardware has a nasty habit of coming as is whether you like it or not. You could also try to re-install the drivers or maybe update them by going to the site of the keyboards manufacturer. For all you know the keyboard could need different drivers then the white one even though you think it is the same thing externally it may not be internally.

you sound like a creature of habit

and are sensitive to even mineute changes

but lets look on the technical side of it for a second maybe the kboard has been configured in the wrong operating language you need to make sure its configured to the country you are in or at least to uk and uk extended if you are american then use uk ~usa as the default i had my kboard configured wrong and the@was " and " was where @ is supposed to be

some other signs and symbols were in the wrong place according to their position printed on my kboard.

and thats how i rectified the problem by changing the default kboard language

More than likely, that the keyboard may be defective, have someone else type with it, and see if they have the same problem.

In the first place, why did you buy the new BLACK keyboard? Just buy back the same colour keyboard.

It's probably just the colour throwing you off, you'll get used to it eventually.

Sounds like the keys maybe smaller and more compact than the older one.
