The function for the population variance is VarP(). Var calculates a sample variance.

The best way to find functions in Excel, any version, is to use the Insert Function dialog box (far left on the Formulas ribbon). It has an area at the top where you can type a description of what you want and Excel will try to find one or more functions that it thinks might work. Then you can check the description of the function to see what it does.

You can also look at the function categories. In this case, you wanted a function to calculate a statistic. So, look in the Statistics category and see if anything looks promising.

Finally, you can do a search in the online help. After a while, you will learn most of the functions that you might use and it gets easier.

You type it in just as our friend has written it into the cell you want it to appear in. In this case the word Voicemail must be in cell A1. If you place it in any other cell you will need to change the A1 value to the cell's value that holds the text. Use the top column grid and left row grid to determine the cell's "name"
