How to help 3 week old get rid of hiccups?

Someone said a little water but I heard water causes seizures and my daughter who is 3 week old sometimes gets hiccups and it makes her mad. Are their any safe ways to help her get rid of hiccups?

Putting the baby to breast is the best way. However Gripe water sometimes helps, or feed her another 1/2 ounce of formula. I think getting rid of the hiccups is more comforting for us as parents as it doesn't hurt the baby to hiccup and actually helps to strengthen the diaphragm.

She is probably more just confused about what her body is doing and the strange noises. My 6 week old boy is so used to having the hiccups he can sleep with them now. So unless the hiccups are going on for hours or she cries after each one I wouldn't worry too much. We've made a game of it now when he is awake, every hiccup gets him a kiss and really loud ones gets a zerbert on the belly. Once I get him laughing the hiccups usually go away and now he looks forward to the play time, he smiles when he gets the hiccups cause he knows it's kissy time!

No water!! Way too young! My son had the hiccups all the time, too. The nurse at the hospital told me to make sure to burp him good, and to use a pacifier. The constant, sucking motions will help his stomach. Also, try not to immediately lay her down after feedings. Hope this helps!

The best remedy I've seen is nursing her. My daughter gets the hiccups alot and nursing has been the most effective. If she's not hungry, try using a pacifier. The sucking will help them go away.

I didn't give my daughter a pacifier at 3 weeks, but if you do, give it to her. If you don't, just nurse her. My daughter constantly gets the hiccups!

Water should not be given to infants.

You should let the hiccups run their course. They are normal and there is nothing wrong w/ them.

after feeding your baby, carry her with the position of hugging you. let her stay that way for 3-5 minutes so the baby will burp, letting go the excess air. in this way she won't burp. another superstitious belief that my mother practised to us was putting a small piece of thread with her saliva and put in our forehead. after 5 minutes, hiccup is gone. i don't know the explanation but it really works.
