I had a hard time deciding what I wanted as well. I ended up taking a picture of a Mickey Mouse bank that I have and taking it to the artist. They were able to draw it into a tattoo for me. That is what I have. I would say if you have a picture or something that you really like take it in.

there is a really good website.

    You can try that.

I'm going to spoil Shareef's joke here (apologies, dude).

    What he's telling you is:

    They aren't symbols. Really.

You mention an interest in something original, but then list out extremely common choices - what 'everyone else' seems to get.

Something original really isn't something we can help you with anyhow, and if it's something personal you'll be much happier. Any pictures or links we give you will almost by default be something someone else already has.

Now, what we can provide is a (sometimes scathing) critique of a choice, or the pluses and minuses of different designs.

Think of something that may be of importance to you or is reflective of your personallity. Try to be original. Dolphins, butterflies are ok, but so unoriginal. How about a "NO TRESSPASSING" sign. Or Calvin tattoo with big eyes...especially if near the bikini line...heck even a "no loitering" sign would be cute and funny. I think the cuteness will come when you decide on the "idea" of the tattoo.

You may be able to get one that is "delicate and pretty" but if you choose one of those things, it will NOT be orignial. Hundreds of women, girls and sometimes guys have gotten stars, dolphins, and chinese symbols.

As for links, just type "Butterfly Tattoo"/"Dolphin Tattoo"/"Star Tattoo" in an image search engine and you'll be able to see tons of them.

take it from a tattoed man......don't waste your money on anything you have to pick off of a wall or out of a book. Your ink should state who you are, not who you think the drawing you picked out is describing. Chinese symbols. psh. pulleeez. it's gonna be your tattoo. you need to be the one to put in the time on it. if you know an artist friend, someone who is able to draw pretty well, you can give them some things to work with and have a one of a kind piece made up. Don't be a sucker for the cheesy tribal art, or the japanese symbols for love or whatever. find your own niche.

you can pretty much google tattoos. go for something that symbolizes you..past present future...not just what you're liking right now. find the meaning of your name and you can tattoo that. like my best friend's name is Debbie, in hebrew it means bee so she has a bee on her shoulder. it's something that ALWAYS symbolizes who she is.

I myself don't have any tattoos, I can't find something that symbolizes ME. remember, it's something that will be on you for the rest of your life, pick wisely. My mom has one on her hip. Her name is Rose so she has a purple rose (her favorite color). I took her and paid for it.

so don't get something because everyone else has it, get something that's symbolizes you. I don't really go for chinese symbols...they're nice and all but I'm not chinese. If anything I'd probably get something that symbolizes my heritage. I'm Irish BUT I also have native american blood and would like to get a feather with the tribes colors. or maybe something celtic.

look deep within you and pick something that you won't say afterward "I should've gotten that better"

Stars are played out, Chinese is okay if you're Chinese, if not, it's retarted. Do something way badass that you drew up, shaded, made your own. I have one tattoo on me that was from flash, all my others I drew up myself and I've got 37 tattoos.

i think you should think really really hard about what you want permanently on your body.

If you really really want a star, get it. If you really want a butterfly, get it. If you really don't want any of these, don't get them. Figure out what YOU want.

It's going to be on your body forever.

Source(s): 2 tattoos, each of which took me at least 3 months to figure out if i really wanted it.
